Sixth Sense

Our client is Sagian and they are the people that designed the Raptus feedback cushion. The goal they had in mind for this project was to explore the possibilities of the Raptus feedback cushion and create a game that uses it to showcase what can be done with the cushion.
There was no specific genre that they wanted to see back in terms of a game, and they gave us a lot of freedom to come up with interesting concepts which will use the cushion.

Description

Our game will be a horror game, designed for use with the Raptus feedback cushion. Traditional horror games use background music and ambience to provide the player with tension. Our game will aim on haptic feedback to accomplish this goal, in a non traditional manner. Normal haptic feedback aims on providing the player with a sense of touch when they hit or get hit by an object combined with audio.
By combining this with a linear, yet “open ended” level design where the player has multiple paths to choose from to complete the level. We hope to induce a need to explore and discover the source of the mysterious sounds, while being chased by the big bad.
In short, our game will be a game where your senses will either reward you, or betray you. The only way you can find out, is by taking the risk. We will implement a way so the player can distinguish good and bad choices(we will need to do some testing for this). By having the big bad have a distinct sound and vibration compared to other entities/escape routes we will let the player distinguish between different vibration profiles. Due to the big bad catching up it will become harder to distinguish between the vibrations as the big bad encroaches on the player. This will result in a more pressure/tensity increase as the game goes on or if the player hesitates to much. Because of this the playerís heartbeat will most likely go up as well, which has an immediate effect on the player provided by the Raptus.
