Client Description:
GGeese Studio is a school startup founded at Fontys University through the incubator program. The team is developing the “XR Racer’s Toolkit,” a mixed-reality gaming project for Meta Quest 3. This innovative toolkit blends real-life go-karting with AR elements, allowing users to design custom tracks with checkpoints, power-ups, and obstacles. Aimed at event organizers and XR enthusiasts, the project focuses on creating engaging and safe experiences that combine physical and virtual elements, pushing the boundaries of interactive gaming. The startup highlights the potential of combining education with entrepreneurial creativity.
Description of the Assignment
XR Racer’s Toolkit is a project for creating a mixed-reality gaming experience using Meta Quest 3 and go-karts. It blends real-life go-karting with AR-based track customization and gameplay. Players can design immersive tracks with checkpoints, power-ups, and obstacles while navigating using physical karts. The toolkit enables creators, such as event organizers, to customize game modes, ensuring safety and engagement. The design focuses on innovative mechanics like shooting, collecting, and strategic racing in a colorful, fast-paced environment. This project aims to combine physical and virtual elements to set a new standard for interactive gaming.
Game Description:
Toolkit
The XR Racer’s Toolkit is an innovative creation tool designed for Meta Quest 3, enabling users to craft immersive mixed-reality tracks that blend real-life go-karting with virtual elements like checkpoints, obstacles, power-ups, and targets. Creators can design and customize tracks, fine-tune game modes like racing or shooting, and test for safety and functionality before sharing them with players. The toolkit prioritizes accessibility and real-world awareness, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience. Currently focused on single-player gameplay, the toolkit aims to expand into multiplayer features, offering even more dynamic and competitive opportunities for users to explore and enjoy.
Shooter Game Mode
In the shooter game mode, players focus on target-shooting mechanics while driving their karts. Creators design tracks with virtual targets like balloons and place ammo pickups (batteries) along the route. Players use a turret with limited ammo, requiring careful aiming and strategic shooting. Checkpoints guide the path, while the turret movement is limited to vertical control, making kart steering integral for aiming. Players earn points by hitting targets, and the mode balances shooting accuracy with driving skills to create an engaging mixed-reality experience.
Racer Game Mode
In the racer game mode, players navigate physical go-karts while interacting with virtual elements using the Meta Quest 3. Tracks are filled with checkpoints, coins, and split paths for strategic decision-making. Players aim to collect coins and complete laps as fast as possible. Time-based rewards (gold, silver, bronze tiers) are assigned based on completion time. Virtual checkpoints extend the timer, and players can boost performance by selecting optimal routes. Real-world awareness is key to avoid physical obstacles while managing speed and direction for maximum efficiency.
